Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
17th March, 2020

We would like to update you on our approach to the unfolding COVID-19 virus, more commonly known as Coronavirus. The safety of our members, staff and partners is our top priority, and we wanted to assure you that our strategy is based on the guidelines set out by the government, PHE (Public Health England)

The latest advice is that anybody who develops a continuous new cough or high temperature should self-isolate and stay at home for 14 days. We ask kindly if you are experiencing these symptoms that you do not visit lifeLEISURE

WHAT LIFELEISURE IS DOING?

  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning of high contact surfaces, i.e. door handles and handrails.
  • Following all Public Health and local and national Government advice and guidance.
  • Issued best practice guidance to all staff.
  • Keeping you up to date – make sure we have your email and mobile number so we can communicate with you.
  • We are proactively taking steps to ensure that there is adequate hand sanitiser within our facilities and that extra cleaning is being carried out

SHOULD WE STILL BE GOING TO THE GYM, AN EXERCISE CLASS OR FOR A SWIM? FOR MOST OF US THE ANSWER IS YES! HERE’S WHY:

  • Physical activity and exercise can help boost immune function.
    Exercise lowers stress.
  • Physical activity is good for metabolic health.
  • Public Health opinion is that it is generally safe to go swimming at this time.
  • Public Health England have confirmed that coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine used in swimming pool.

The health and wellbeing benefits of keeping active significantly outweigh any risk unless you are advised otherwise by a health professional.

 GOING SWIMMING

  • The health and well-being benefits of keeping active significantly outweigh any risk unless you are advised otherwise by a health professional.

  • Public Health England have confirmed that coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine used in swimming pools.

WE WOULD ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT BY FOLLOWING THE STEPS BELOW IF YOU ARE VISITING ONE OF OUR CLUBS

  • Keep your hands as clean as possible, washing regularly and thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water. When it is not possible to do this, please use the hand sanitisers situated around the club.
  • Practising good hand hygiene is the best way to prevent yourself from contracting Coronavirus at the gym. Keep your hands away from your mouth, eyes and nose.
  • Using gym and activity equipment is like other environments with high contact surfaces, so cleanliness is the highest priority. When you have finished using a piece of fitness equipment, please use sprays available at hygiene stations situated around the club.
  • Sweat is not infectious but you should clean up after yourself as usual. In the gym, don’t use the same towel to wipe the equipment and your face! Use the paper towels or wipes provided.
  • If you cough or sneeze, ideally into your elbow, please use a tissue and dispose of it, washing your hands with soap and warm water or using the hand sanitisers provided
  • Please follow the latest government return traveller advice if you have recently visited a high-risk place
  • Keep hydrated – fill up at one of our water fountains.
  • If you are unwell or have been instructed to self-isolate, you should not come to the centre.

WHAT HAPPENS IF LIFELEISURE ARE INFORMED OF A CASE?

If it is identified that at lifeLEISURE are informed of a case, we will follow official guidelines on next steps and have a clear plan which reflects them. The guidance to date is to close for a short period (approx. 24-48 hours) in order to complete a full deep clean before reopening

We will update our guidance considering any changes made and guidance received from the Government and Public Health England.

We thank you for your understanding during this time.
